A World Full of Questions…
The extraordinary advances in science duringthe 20th century had led the heirs of the Enlightenment to believe that God was nothing more than a figment of man’s imagination, born of his ignorance. Many philosophers of that era had put forward and defended theories along these lines. The arrival of television and refrigerators in homes heralded happiness. Two world wars and several economic crises later, it became clear that scientific progress did not solve all the problems facing humankind on Earth. Today, the phenomenal development of new information and communication technologies has propelled us into an era where planet Earth has become a global village where everything is said and known within a day through computer networks whose capabilities are constantly increasing tenfold. Have we, however, created universal brotherhood? The problem of loneliness is more relevant than ever in a world that is nonetheless “connected .” The meaning of life—the purpose for which human beings journey through this existence—remains the subject of an unending quest. What answer can we give to those who can’t take it anymore? What can we offer to those who, weary of the scourges of unemployment, a broken marriage, or illness, want to end their lives as they are now?
The Church of Jesus Christ, established to fulfill God’s perfect plan for a lost humanity, has the mission of answering these fundamental questions. The Bible, the Word of the Eternal God, is a source of instruction for understanding the meaning of life, leading people to the Creator of life. It teaches that people inthe 21st century, just like those in previous centuries, will not live by science and technology alone, but will find the fullness of their existence in a dynamic and living relationship with the Creator through Jesus Christ.In this way, people can experience true communion with God within a community formed by all the other members of this universal church.
